Rainwater Harvesting played centre stage in the construction of a horticultural society’s new visitor welcome building. The building is the central hub of the visitor centre housing a 100-seater café, retail space, and educational spaces for visitors. As well as other sustainable technologies, rainwater harvesting helped to contribute to a BREEAM Outstanding rating for the development. The inclusion of water reuse technologies aligned perfectly with the client’s ESG commitments (environmental, social, and governance).
The development was ideal for rainwater harvesting due to the inclusion of a large green roof area that formed part of the site’s sustainable drainage system and a high occupancy rate from visitors within the building. This provided the ideal opportunity for the provision of a sustainable water supply for WC flushing to reduce reliance on potable water supplies.
Stormsaver provided our popular non-pressurised rainwater harvesting system with a 45,000-litre capacity storage tank to harvest rainwater from the green roof. Our experienced estimators were able to size the rainwater harvesting system factoring in the runoff coefficient of 45% from the green roof.
