Olympic Sporting Arena, London
Having set a goal to host one of the most sustainable Olympic ceremonies in the history of the event, the project team aimed to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘excellent’ on the new handball arena through the provision of a sustainable water supply. The 7,000-capacity venue was ideal for water reuse technologies due to having a high potable water demand during events and a large roof area to capture rainwater.
Stormsaver was able to provide our popular non-pressurised rainwater harvesting system which was ideal for the large leisure venue due to being able to achieve a high flow rate for supplying sustainable water to points of use. The venue also required a solution where the public plaza areas were not disrupted during the servicing of an underground storage tank; therefore, Stormsaver specified an 8,000-litre above-ground tank. The system was designed to reduce mains water consumption by 40% by supplying recycled rainwater to WCs around the venue.
Stormsaver was able to provide a system capable of saving 443,000 litres of water a year through the collecting of rainwater from the 750m2 roof area. Stormsaver has continued to provide ongoing maintenance services to the site ensuring the system continues to be fully operational for the next generation of Olympic athletes.
