Offices, Derby
Having called on the services of numerous non-specialist contractors to attempt to get their rainwater harvesting system operational once again, the facility manager responsible for this office building approached Stormsaver to carry out an in-depth system survey from our specialist maintenance team.
Upon attending the site, one of our Senior Engineers discovered the system was a “do-it-yourself” system collecting and reusing rainwater via Heath Robinson methods. These styles of systems are normally purchased when an installation contractor is trying to reduce cost or have never come across rainwater harvesting before.
The existing system had several major issues. Firstly, the system was not recycling any rainwater at all and solely relying on mains water to fulfil the non-potable water demand. The system had been switched to mains water due to limited access to the storage tank for cleaning and maintenance purposes. The system also had an insufficient airgap between the rainwater and mains water supplies, increasing the potential for cross-contamination.
Stormsaver were able to use our two decades worth of experience to propose an immediate solution to retrofit a sufficient airgap to separate the mains water and rainwater supplies. After this, we were entrusted to completely remove the existing system and replace it with a professional rainwater harvesting system.
The new solution came in the form of our highly reliable non-pressurised rainwater harvesting system. We installed a completely new above-ground storage tank with sufficient access for maintenance, a new control panel complete with automatic backwash filtration for ease of cleaning and maintenance, and a new header tank to give the site a reliable and safe way of supplying rainwater to their 175 toilets.
