Entertainment Arena, Leeds
Just like any other arena or stadium around the world, Leeds Arena was ideal for rainwater harvesting. A high water demand during event periods and an extensive roof area made the venue ideal for the provision of a secondary sustainable water supply. The inclusion of sustainable technologies in the development has made the arena one of the most sustainable in the world and has helped the 13,500-capacity venue to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’.
Stormsaver worked with the UK’s leading consulting engineers to specify the best solution for the venue’s requirements. Our estimating team proposed a huge 110,000-litre storage tank to make full potential of the 2,562m2 collecting roof area. Stormsaver also specified our non-pressurised rainwater harvesting system due to the high flow rates required during events. In total, the system was designed to provide a sustainable water supply to 49 WCs and urinals in the venue. Stormsaver also recommended the inclusion of our automatic backwash filter to eliminate the requirement for physical filter changes by the facility management team.
The system also came equipped with a 5,000-litre break tank with automatic mains water top-up to ensure the venue had a suitable supply in the unlikely event of a system failure during an event.
