Types of schemes

The DFE has categorised the projects it could potentially help into three categories these being:

Small Schemes: These may include a variety of small planters.

Medium Schemes: Options here can encompass planters, small rain gardens, and tree pits.

Large Schemes: This category includes extensive setups featuring planters, swales, detention basins, and larger rain gardens.

Schools are being encouraged by the government to consider schemes that best meet their requirements.

Scoring of schemes

The DFE will score all applications based on the following criteria…

Surface Water Flood History (32.5%): Schools that have previously experienced flooding will receive a higher score if they provide evidence such as reports, insurance claims, or testimonials.

Benefits (32.5%): The expected cost savings and protection provided by the SuDS, including avoiding damage to school properties and preventing learning interruptions, will be evaluated.

Costs (20%): Applications will be assessed on their cost-effectiveness, with lower average costs per school scoring higher.

Project Stage (10%): More points will be awarded to projects that are closer to completion or construction-ready.

Number of Schools (5%): Larger projects involving multiple schools are encouraged and will be scored higher based on the number of schools included.
